Skin is our body part that often changes overtime. Skin also the part of our body that usually contact with external environment. Skin cell more often change than other part body cells. The skin functions as protective barrier that interferes with a sometime hostile environment.

Skin sensitivity of everybody may different, sometime too sensitive by environment changing but somebody else not too sensitive to environmental changes. If environment changes is not suitable to our body condition then skin will show a strange sign like changes on the skin color or feel itch on the skin.

It gathers sensory information from the environment, and plays an active role in immune system protecting us from the skin disease. Understanding on how the skin can function in these many ways starts with understanding the structure of the 3 layers of skin, epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous tissue.

The epidermis is the outer layer of skin. The thickness of the epidermis varies in different types of skin. It is the thinnest on the eyelids at .05 mm and the thickest on the palms and soles at 1.5 mm.

The epidermis contains 5 layers. From bottom to top the layers are named:
  1. stratum basale
  2. stratum spinosum
  3. stratum granulosum
  4. stratum licidum
  5. stratum corneum
